Another month has gone by, and our little "Whippy" is now 16 months old! "Whip" or "Whippy" has become a recent nickname for Micah. The name comes from one of Micah's favorite books - The Dog Book, which has a picture of a Whippet, named Stanley. For some reason, in the 1000th time we've read the book, the name stuck and it's now Micah's nickname.
Micah has continued to change a lot over the past month. This age certainly has its challenges and frustrations, but it is definitely a fun age as I watch this little man grow and develop.
1) Transition - Micah is officially in the toddler room at daycare, and he is enjoying his new friends, although a little sad during drop-offs. He sure comes home exhausted each day!
2) Sleeps from roughly 8:00-7:00 (give or take 30 minutes) each night. Occasionally we will hear him cry out, but he usually can put himself back to sleep without us having to get out of bed. During the week, he's only taking an hour and a half nap at daycare, and coming home awfully grouchy at night. On the weekends or days off, he'll sleep for 2-3 hours.
3) Diaper changes have become quite challenging these days. Some days it takes two of us to change him, as he's kicking, flipping, and screaming. On days that Kyle works late, I'm tempted to knock on our neighbor's door for help!!
4) Wearing 18-24 month pants and 2T shirts. He wears 4T hats - yes, Micah is above the growth charts in both head circumference and height. He's still in size 5 diapers, and showing no signs of potty training.
5) Favorite foods - milk, golden grahams, still mac and cheese, recently ate about 200 blueberries in one day only to avoid them the next day, goldfish, cheese, bananas, cereal bars, and french fries. Micah still will eat a variety of foods, but we've noticed that he will eat a lot one day, and very little the next day. Last time we were into the MD, he was in the 93% for weight.
6) New words - imitating the sound of a fire truck, "na-na" for banana, "ba-ba" for sheep, "ssss" for snake, "caaaaa" for coffee, "hy-ya" ??? must have learned it from daycare.
7) Can throw a ball, beginning to jump, going down the stairs with 1 hand hold assist and a reciprocal stair pattern (can you tell I'm a PT?!)
8) Favorite toys - books, bubbles, chalk, his kitchen set, and occasionally a few blocks. Overall, he'd rather be emptying a cupboard or playing with my pot and pans or tupperware containers, or playing with Brutus' toys versus playing with too many of his toys.
9) Loves to help and be affirmed for it. Favorite job, helping me unload the dishwasher or walk Brutus or dig holes out in the flower beds.
10) Loves being outside and going to the park.
11) Still takes a pacifier to sleep. We are no longer having to rock him to sleep, but rather rub his back while he's laying in his crib. Soon, we are going to have to start thinking about a toddler bed, as he exceeds the height limit for a crib - 30 inches, but since he has yet to start crawling out, we are waiting a little longer on that thought.
12) Not entirely interested in TV other than Dogs 101 or Sesame Street for a brief moment.
13) Tantrums have become a multiple occurrence on a daily basis - yes, the smallest things can set him off, depending on his level of tiredness. I feel a lot of the frustration stems from him not understand us and us not understanding him, and other times he is just plain tired and cranky! We've been trying to distract him, calm him down by asking him to show us what he wants and sometime we have to just simply ignore him.
14) Still loves his dogs whether it would be Brutus, his uncle Jack (aka my parent's dog) or his stuffed Golden Retriever puppy from Ikea named "Gosig" On a recent trip to the cities, we had to buy 3 additional "Gosig" dogs to have a few on stand-by should something happen to the original.
15) Has taken an interest anything electronic or with buttons - light switches, fans, remote controls. We recently let him push the start button on the coffee maker and use the garage door opener. He now wants to push them all...the....time....
16) Is looking forward to a fun summer of swimming, going up north, visiting his grandparents, boating, and biking. Yesterday he went on his first bike ride in our Burley. It received mixed reactions - he wasn't too fond of his helmet, but I think he'll enjoy it as we go on more bike rides throughout the summer.
